The species name minima already gives it away - it is a small floating fern species from Central and South America. The floating leaves are usually roundish and are between 1 cm and 2.5 cm in size. The floating stems can reach a size of 8 to 10 cm, after which they usually break apart. Salvinia minima is an easy-care plant and is ideal for preventing algae. It can also be used as an indicator plant for nutrients in the water. Smaller, light green leaves are a sure sign of a lack of nutrients.
